Institute for Humanities Research (IHR)
The mission of the Institute for Humanities Research (IHR) is to enhance the environment for humanities research on the UCSC campus. The IHR provides infrastructure in support of all manner of research initiatives, including assistance with grant proposal preparation, administration of grants, hosting workshops and conferences, and dissemination of information about research activities. Recognizing that humanities research is an important component of a first-rate research university and is crucial to excellent teaching and scholarship, the IHR provides time, space, and support for the maintenance of a lively, active research community of faculty and students as well as fellowships and grants to help faculty and students in the humanities pursue their research.

Center for Cultural Studies
The Center for Cultural Studies at UC Santa Cruz was founded in the Spring of 1988 as a part of the University of California's President's Humanities Initiative. It is now in its twentieth year. Through an ensemble of research clusters, conferences, workshops, visiting scholars, publications, film series, and a Resident Scholars Program, the Center has encouraged a broad range of research in the rapidly evolving field of cultural studies. more |

Center for Jewish Studies
Jewish Studies at Santa Cruz is an interdisciplinary program that offers students a broad knowledge of Jewish culture, especially its literature, art, and history, as well as its perspectives on community, ethics, identity, and philosophy. Our program focuses on the modern era, and analyzes the impact of the changes brought by modernization to Jewish life, and by the Jews to modern culture. more |

Center for Labor Studies
The UCSC Center for Labor Studies, founded in 2007, is dedicated to the study of working people, the labor movement, and the challenge of the broader global economy as it impacts the working people of California and beyond. Through conferences, workshops, public lectures, and a range of guest speakers, in particular, on the relationship between the labor movement, social movements, and democratic practices; on gender, race, and ethnic dynamics; and on labor activism in international context. more |

Center for the Studies of Pacific War Memories
The Center for the Study of Pacific War Memories was established in the fall of 2006 to facilitate curricular and research projects across the Asia-Pacific region related to memories of the Pacific War (1937-1945). The Center seeks especially to promote transnational, collaborative teaching and research. more |

Center for World History
As a part of a collective effort at imagining the development of world history as a research field, the Center for World History sponsors occasional lectures and conferences. The Center also supports the activities of the University of California, Santa Cruz History Graduate Research Cluster on “Colonialism, Race and Trans-National Movements.”

Chicano/Latino Research Center
The Chicano/Latino Research Center (CLRC) is an internationally recognized site for the support of scholarship on Chicano and Latino issues. Promoting cross-border perspectives linking the Americas and the study of U.S. changing demographic and cultural panorama, the Center focuses on globalization and transculturation, processes that are redefining cultural, social, and political identities in the Americas.

Dickens Project
The Dickens Project at the University of California is a scholarly consortium devoted to promoting the study and enjoyment of the life, time and work of Charles Dickens. Concerned with these simultaneously historic and modern issues, founded in 1981 and headquartered at UC Santa Cruz, The Dickens Project consists of faculty and graduate students from the eight general campuses of the University of California as well as from other major American and international universities.

Institute for Advanced Feminist Research
The focus of the UCSC Institute for Advanced Feminist Research is "Feminism and the Public Sphere." Dedicated to bridging academic and activist divides, the IAFR sponsors projects that are historical, international and interdisciplinary in their conception, and collaborative and experimental in their practices. Employing scholarly methodologies and activist strategies, participants address a range of intellectual and academic problems and engage current political debates, including those from which feminist critiques have been largely absent.

Linguistics Research Center
Within the linguistics community at UC Santa Cruz, the Linguistics Research Center (LRC) occupies a special place. A separate entity not involved with teaching and instruction, the LRC is exclusively devoted to the purpose of facilitating the pursuit of original research in theoretical linguistics by all members of the linguistics community- faculty, students, and visiting scholars- and disseminating the results.

Mediterranean Seminar
The Mediterranean Seminar is dedicated to the study of the nature of premodern Mediterranean societies and cultures and their role in World History and the History of “the West.” Sponsoring a diverse range of scholarly activities, including a reading group, colloquia, seminars, and publications, The Mediterranean Seminar provides a forum for scholarly exchange and dialogue across the Humanities and Social Sciences. Our aim is to facilitate investigation into the premodern Mediterranean and to promote the incorporation of Mediterranean Studies into university curricula.

The Satyajit Ray Film and Study Collection (Ray FASC) is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to the preservation and dissemination of Satyajit Ray's cinematic, literary and artistic oeuvre. It is organized as a Focused Research Activity in the Humanities Division of the University of California, Santa Cruz.
