Our cohort programs connect you with peers, faculty, and community partner mentors, while offering staff support every step of the way.

Get Paid To Put Your Humanities Skills to Work!

Humanities EXCEL Fellows hold paid internships with off-campus community partner organizations and mentors that value our students’ ideas and perspectives. This cohort program helps you develop career-ready and transferable skills for professional and community-focused work. It highlights the importance of a humanities degree in various career paths.

You will practice reflecting on the humanistic lens and expertise you bring to your work that impacts the Santa Cruz County community and beyond.

You will nurture transferable career-ready skills that prepare you to be socially-just leaders in professional and community-engaged settings.

You will be able to articulate the relevance of your humanities degree in professional contexts or applications.

You will identify two career-ready skills to focus on throughout your internship. You will be able to self-assess your abilities within these two skills.

You will be able to produce an effective resume and cover letter that capture your fellowship experience.


Humanities EXPLORE Undergraduate Research Program

Humanities EXPLORE: Experiential Learning Opportunities in Research

Work on faculty-led research projects in the humanities

Humanities EXPLORE fellows are paid undergraduate researchers on faculty-led projects, including community-engaged work in the public humanities. This cohort program fosters engagement with support networks and helps you understand what professional research is like.

This is an excellent opportunity for transfer students to apply existing skills, work closely with faculty, and gain practical research experience at UCSC.

You will practice reflecting on the research process and its impact on personal, academic, and career goals.

You will nurture transferable career-ready skills that prepare them to be socially just leaders in academic, professional, and community-engaged settings.

You will cultivate a research support network, including faculty mentors, staff, peers, and resources.

You will identify two career-ready skills to focus on throughout your research experience. You will be able to self-assess your abilities within these two skills.

You will be able to produce an effective resume and cover letter that capture your research experience.


Eligibility Requirements

Minimum Qualifications for Participation

  • You must be a currently enrolled UCSC student with a declared major or minor in the Humanities Division. Or, you are a proposed major or minor in the declaration process, are in progress with coursework, and you plan to declare by the end of the current academic year (see the list below).
