As some of you may know, I have been offered the position, starting this fall, of Founding Dean of the new College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Boston’s fast-growing Northeastern University. It is with decidedly mixed emotions that I announce to you my intention to accept this position, which offers an unparalleled opportunity to build new programs and interdisciplinary initiatives. Northeastern is well known for its visionary commitment to experiential learning and global outreach, educational values that resonate profoundly with my own.

On the other hand, I am very saddened to leave a campus I love and the company of the best colleagues a dean could want. I will greatly miss you, but I also feel confident the division is in good hands with you and on the right track. I thank all of you, and I look forward to staying in touch with you.

Sincerely,
Georges Van Den Abbeele
Outgoing Dean of Humanities
