I am interested in how “realism” is deployed across a range of media and genres: specifically the African-American novel, documentary photography, and the police procedural. My graduate work in English literature culminated in a thesis that compared “conventional” novels written by Toni Morrison and Ralph Ellison to the “novelistic” television show The Wire.
