Scholarship Fund Established In Memory of Gary Lease, Former Chair and Professor of the Department of the History of Consciousness

A fellowship fund has been established in memory of History of Consciousness Professor Doctor Gary Lease, who died on January 4, after a long battle against cancer.

Professor Lease joined the UCSC faculty in 1973 and served as chair of the History of Consciousness Department from 1998 to 2004. Professor Lease was also dean of the Humanities Division from 1990 to 1995 and interim humanities dean from 2004 to 2006. Since last summer, he had filled the position of chair of UCSC's Language Program.

Those who would like to contribute to the Gary Lease Fellowship Fund may do by sending a check, made payable to UC Santa Cruz Foundation with Lease Fellowship written in the memo line, to Liz Sandoval, Humanities Dean's Office, 1156 High Street, Santa Cruz, CA 95064; or by calling Tracy McCullough in Gift Administration at 831 427-4765 to make a gift with a credit card by phone.

A memorial for Dr. Lease will take place on Saturday, February 2, at 2 p.m. in the Humanities Lecture Hall.

A remembrances page has been created on the Humanities Division site. The division welcomes memories and recollections related to Professor Lease – both personal and professional.
