The Humanities Division is excited to announce an experiential learning opportunity for Humanities undergraduates at UC Santa Cruz to work with Santa Cruz Works. Public Fellowships are internships that connect Humanities majors and minors to projects in the community, intending to benefit students and organizations mutually. Students gain practical experience and professional training and learn about positions outside of the university that build on their studies in the Humanities. At the same time, community organizations benefit from students’ assistance and academic expertise.

Santa Cruz Works is seeking a motivated Humanities intern to join our team. This internship is a fantastic opportunity for a UCSC undergraduate student to apply their academic background to real-world projects and contribute to a thriving organization.

Position Description:

RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Marketing & Communications (60%): Assist with content creation for marketing materials, website, social media, or grant proposals.
  • Industry Research (10%): Research industry trends, competitor analysis, or specific topics relevant to Santa Cruz Works' initiatives. Training can be provided.
  • UX Research (10%): Participate in user experience (UX) research, including user interviews and data analysis, to improve our programs and services.
  • Community Outreach (10%): Help develop and implement outreach programs to connect with the Santa Cruz community. Support strategy to engage UCSC student organizations, and do student outreach.
  • Administrative Tasks (10%): Assist with other tasks as assigned, which may include writing, editing, or administrative support.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • You are a declared major or minor in a department in the Humanities Division, you are in good academic standing. If you are currently proposed, you can to declare by the end of the academic year in June 2025. [required]
  • You have strong research and communication skills and can write clearly and concisely.
  • You have proven critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • You are interested in the nonprofit sector and want to make a positive impact.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is preferred.

Internship Term: September 2024–March 2025

Hours: 10-20 hours/week

Compensation: $18-$20/hour depending on experience

Location: Fully remote; 1-2 half-days/month in person to support events. Flexible hours to fit your needs.

Reports to: The Executive Director, and Business Development Manager, of Santa Cruz Works ( both of whom are UCSC Literature Alums!)
