“The Tuskegee School of Midwifery: Exposing the Suppression of Black and Indigenous Midwifery Knowledges in U.S. Medicine in Service to Reimagining Reproductive Care”
Anne is a Ph.D. candidate in Feminist Studies with a Designated Emphasis in Critical Race and Ethnic Studies. She is completing her dissertation, “Re-membering Healing: The Tuskegee School of Midwifery and Its Legacies for Reproductive Care,” for a June 2023 graduation, under the mentorship of Professor Gina Dent and committee members Anjali Arondekar, Nancy Chen, and Gina Athena Ulysse. Anne is thrilled to have received the UCLA Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellowship and will begin working with mentor Robin D.G. Kelley on her research topic, “The Midwives Never Left: Tracing Healing Justice Solidarities from Tuskegee to Haiti,” in July 2023.

“Queer and Trans Digital Activism: Neoconservatism and Democracy in Brazil”
Marina is a Ph.D. candidate in the Feminist Studies Department with designated emphases in Latin American Latino Studies and Critical Race and Ethnic Studies and Latin American Latino Studies Department at UC Santa Cruz. Her research interests focus primarily on digital culture, queer anthropology, and sociocultural linguistics. She co-authored the article The colonial necropolitics of “gender ideology” in Brazil: the queer as a question of national security.
