The Idstrom Family Prize for Creative Writing was established in 2018 by John Idstrom to reward extraordinary accomplishments in creative writing.

Dakeya is a double major who started at UC Santa Cruz in 2018. Her poetry explores themes of nature, self-hood, and identity. She has a special place in her heart for the Center for Agroecology & Sustainable Food Systems, and has worked on the farm for the last two years. After graduating from UC Santa Cruz, Dakeya hopes to continue traveling, reading and writing, and farming.
