The Sol and Esther Draznin Memorial Scholarship in Classical Studies

To honor his parents and show his appreciation for the education he received, Classics alumnus James Draznin (‘77) established an endowment in classical studies.

Draznin says, “The education I received at UC Santa Cruz was exceptional, and I want to help make that opportunity available for other students.”

2022-23 Draznin Memorial Scholar

Jean Luke Shedid is an Applied Linguistics and Classical Studies major from Bakersfield, CA, specializing in TESOL. His main academic interests involve the teaching of English, Latin, and Ancient Greek as second languages and the common practices of ancient viticulture. Currently, he has studied to some extent Latin, Ancient Greek, Spanish, Arabic, and Scottish Gaelic. His hobbies and interests outside of school include fermentation, Spanish guitar, creative writing, and gardening.
