The Mollie Cass Sater Memorial Scholarship

In 2020, Professor William F. Sater established this scholarship endowment in tribute and memory of his mother, Mollie Cass Sater. William Sater is the parent of alumna Rachel Sater (Kresge ’93, History of Art and Visual Culture).

The Mollie Cass Sater Memorial Scholarship in Jewish Studies supports one or more undergraduate students with financial need who display a strong interest in Jewish Studies.

RACHEL KEDEM

Literature Creative Writing Minor: Jewish Studies

2022-23 Sater Memorial Scholar

Rachel Kedem is a 3rd year undergraduate student and Crown affiliate majoring in Literature with a Creative Writing concentration and minoring in Jewish Studies. She is a student leader at Santa Cruz Hillel, where she helps plan Shabbat dinners and other Santa Cruz Hillel events. She enjoys editing and providing feedback on essays and manuscripts, and hopes to continue to pursue that passion by working as an editor at a publishing house or creative writing journal in the future.


RACHEL VANROSS

History

2022-23 Sater Memorial Scholar

Rachel Vanross transferred to UC Santa Cruz after completing her Associates Degree in History at Shasta College in 2021. She returned to school in 2020 to complete her first history degree after a four year hiatus from Copper Mountain College which she started attending in 2015. She attended high school in Yucca Valley, California with the Joshua Tree National Park in her backyard. Her interest in history began in elementary school and has only been fostered by numerous teachers throughout her educational career. She is excited to have the opportunity to continue her educational journey at such a high quality university.
