The 2023-2024 Ryan Bennett Scholarship Recipients

Since 2002, the Dizikes Faculty Teaching Award has celebrated the work of outstanding teachers and their students. The award honors the work of faculty and supports students who aspire to learning and critical thinking. Faculty recipients of the award receive a grant and designate students from a Humanities Division program to receive scholarships that recognize academic accomplishment.

Linguistics, Environmental Studies

Millie is a 4th-year Linguistics and Environmental Studies major at UCSC. They like to view the structure of language primarily as an intimate extension of nature. They are very interested in theoretical phonology, and hope to attend graduate school to further their linguistics education. Outside of class, they co-coordinate Fruitcake Magazine, and like to spend a lot of time on visual arts and long walks in the forest.


Kristine Nakagawa

Linguistics

Kristine Nakagawa is a Linguistics major who loves learning more about the world. She especially enjoys discovering variation in the world's languages, but also appreciates simpler ways of discovering the world, like exploring her environment. She has a tendency to probe her friends for linguistic data whenever she encounters a new question to ask.
