Humanities Dean’s Excellence Awards are given at the dean’s discretion to support student success in and beyond the classroom. Awards are given to students with financial need who demonstrate exceptional scholarship and a strong passion for the study of the humanities.
Destinee Carpenter
Feminist Studies
Destinee Carpenter is a first generation transfer student, majoring in Feminist Studies and graduating in 2025. Destinee is from San Francisco, CA where she attended her first three years of college before continuing her education at UC Santa Cruz. After graduating, Destinee hopes to use her degree to make a difference in her community and provide deeper insight and understanding of feminist thought.
Jes Dunnaville
Critical Race & Ethnic Studies, Global & Community Health
Jes Dunnaville is a dance-theatre artist pursuing a double major in Global and Community Health; Critical Race and Ethnic Studies at University of California, Santa Cruz. Investigating legacies of Ethnomedicine and Liberation Ecology, they employ land-based public art-making to scaffold collaborative community health interventions. Jes is a member of the International Association for Dance Medicine & Science, holding a Permaculture Design Certification from Occidental Arts & Ecology.
