The Sol and Esther Draznin Memorial Scholarship in Classical Studies

To honor his parents and show his appreciation for the education he received, Classics alumnus James Draznin (‘77) established an endowment in classical studies.

Draznin says, “The education I received at UC Santa Cruz was exceptional, and I want to help make that opportunity available for other students.”

Classical Studies, History

Michael Robinson is a re-entry student from Watsonville, CA, majoring in Classical Studies and History. They were drawn to Classics because they felt it provided the best possible combination of their love of language study, literature, and the ancient world. Their academic interests outside of the study of Latin and Greek are the history of the ancient Mediterranean, especially Jewish history in the Greek and Roman world, ancient philosophy (especially that of the Pre-Socratics), and the study of languages. In addition to studying Ancient Greek and Latin, they have previously studied French, German, Italian, and Hebrew. Their non-academic interests include hiking, swimming, photography, and writing.
