Saúl Ordaz
Sociology, Spanish Studies, minor in Education
Hello! :) My name is Saúl Ordaz (He/Him/Él) and I am a first-generation, low-income, queer, and Mexican-American college student at UCSC pursuing a double major in Sociology and Spanish Studies and minor in Education. On campus I am involved in a variety of community-based spaces such as the Chicane/Latine Resource Center (El Centro), Chicanx/Latine Educándose (ChALE), and the Student Union Assembly (SUA). I love finding ways that I can support my Latine community and connect with my Mexican heritage. This has also shaped my research interests; I am currently fascinated by the policing of queerness in Latine households, the internalization of Latine familial guilt/shame, as well as the perceptions of valid Latine identity expression. Outside of academia and student organizing, I love to paint, garden, and spend time with family and friends!
