Voice memory for indexical and lexical information

Linguistics

WHO: Grant McGuire, Josiah Cannon

WHAT: What do we remember about voices? What kind of information do we store? This project examines voices and our knowledge of their characteristics.

WHY: The dominant theories of speech perception all posit that people remember a striking amount of information. We are interested in the limits of that.

WHAT'S NEXT: We are replicating and extending previous research right now. We hope to answer more directly the limitations of what people store when listening to voices over the coming year.

THE WOW: Experiment design has proven very challenging, we’re moving forward now! We keep learning that we know very little about how voices are learned and stored making replicating findings crucial to the project.
