Call for Applications: Humanities EXCEL Fellowship with The Hive Poetry Collective, 2024-2025
This role is open to work-study and non-work-study students. This role requires work authorization.
Application Deadline: October 13, 2024
The Humanities Division and The Humanities Institute are excited to announce an experiential learning opportunity for undergraduates at UC Santa Cruz to work with The Hive Poetry Collective.
The Humanities Experiential Career Exploration and Learning (EXCEL) Program connects Humanities majors and minors to organizations in the community for paid internships. In this cohort program, EXCEL Fellows gain practical experience and professional training while learning about positions outside of the university that build on their studies in the humanities. At the same time, community partner organizations benefit from students’ assistance and academic expertise. EXCEL Fellowships carry on the success of THI’s Public Fellows program, and they foster positive collaborations between the campus and community, demonstrating the value of a Humanities degree for a range of careers.
About The Hive Poetry Collective
Hive Poetry Collective’s mission is to unite a diverse community to appreciate all kinds of poetry by all kinds of people. We believe that poetry, through its beauty and craft, changes people’s minds and opens them to fresh ideas, self-reflection, and self-inquiry. In so doing, poetry has the power to inspire social change.
Pursuing a vision of equity, diversity, and inclusion, we resolve to create a space that honors diversity across all lines of difference, including age, economic circumstance, ethnicity, sex, race, range of ability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, and poetic styles.
The Collective aims to challenge beliefs and assumptions about our differences and explore new, uncharted areas in our programming. Given that inclusion and openness are evolving, we recognize we will always have room for growth. Still, we pledge to consider various perspectives to make real, lasting, and equitable change.
