Calling all UCSC Undergraduates: Annoucing a Paid Internship in Special Collections & Archives

UCSC Special Collections and University Archives invites applications for one undergraduate internship in the 2024-2025 academic year. The intern will be trained in archival theory and practice and work with special collections materials related to student activism in the early years of UCSC. Projects will include archival processing and research and the curation of a public exhibition. This paid internship is 10 hours a week for Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters (September 2024 to June 2025). 


Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:

  • Some experience or familiarity with Special Collections and Archives.
  • Ability to handle Special Collections materials with care and consideration.
  • Ability to prioritize workload to identify and meet the most pressing needs in a flexible environment.
  • Ability to work with confidential records with discretion and maturity.
  • Organizational skills sufficient to track projects and sort materials.
  • Ability to take direction from staff.
  • Ability to perform a large variety of tasks using analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have computer data entry skills.
  • Must have ability to lift items up to 30 lbs. with or without accommodation.
  • Must have a tolerance for dust and ink.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Preferred:

  • Previous library employment and /or volunteer experience.
  • Knowledge of UC Library Search and other library databases.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Basic knowledge of digital imaging techniques, including scanning software and hardware.
  • Experience developing and maintaining small databases.
  • Knowledge of and interest in activism, social justice, and grassroots organizing.
  • Experience conducting research with primary sources.

Internship Term: Week of September 23, 2024 to Week of June 12, 2025

Hours: 10 hours/week

Compensation: $22.72/hour
