The Joseph H. Silverman Fellowship
Dissertation fellowship for doctoral candidate in Spanish Renaissance Literature (particularly Golden Age Drama, Cervantes, the Picaresque Novel or Sephardic Balladry.)
David Dabaco (B.A., literature, ’95), the first recipient of the Joseph H. Silverman Memorial Fellowship, greatly appreciated the financial assistance. Having supported himself throughout his college career, Mr. Dabaco welcomed the aid. “The fellowship has provided me the time I need to dedicate to my studies and get important work done,” he said.
The endowment was established by June Chavez Silverman, widow of the UC Santa Cruz Spanish literature professor. She wrote letters to friends, colleagues, and former students, soliciting their participation. The 129 individuals who contributed to the fund honor Professor Silverman while supporting Mr. Dabaco, a graduate scholar of Spanish Renaissance literature.
