Call for Applications: Humanities EXCEL Fellowship with Boys & Girls Club of Santa Cruz County – Resource Development (RD) Coordinator (Marketing) 2025-2026

The Humanities Experiential Career Exploration and Learning (EXCEL) Program connects undergraduate Humanities majors and minors with community partners for paid internships. Fellows gain valuable professional experience while exploring potential career paths.

Duration: Academic Year 2025–26
Hours: 10–20 hours/week
Pay: $20/hour
Mentorship: Regular check-ins and support from the Director of Development, Andrew Cunningham
What You’ll Do: Resource Development (RD) Coordinator (Marketing)
To support the Clubhouses and Programs that serve Santa Cruz County youth, our organization relies on revenue from several sources, including contributed income from donors and events.
As a Resource Development Coordinator, a Humanities EXCEL Intern will have training and insights into operating a public 501c3 not-for-profit community organization. Our fundraising includes annual appeals and general fundraising campaigns, special events, and a capital campaign to support facility updates at the Club.
- Donor Stewardship & Relationship building (30%): This includes data entry for donation and event attendance and the production of thank you / tax letters.
- Learn to use MyClubHub, a custom instance of the Salesforce CRM (customer relationship management software) for donor communications.
- Learn about the basics of fundraising campaigns, including Year End Appeals / annual campaigns.
- Marketing and Communications (50%) :
- Cultivate and manage the Club's presence on social media (primarily Facebook and Instagram), creating a cheerful and youth-centered voice that communicates the impact of our programs.
- Assist with creating digital eBlasts (which reach a subscriber audience of ~6,000) and with bi-annual printed newsletters.
- Contribute to the production of our annual printed & mailed newsletter.
- Event Planning & Support (10%) : The Club' raises over $75,000 per year from events, including an annual Golf Tournament during the summer (July). The Coordinator will support the Development Director in planning and executing these events.
- We intend to host additional in-person events for donors and community supporters, including dine-to-donate and volunteer “happy hours.”
- Introductory grant writing and reporting (20%): The Club generates grant revenue from various foundation, corporate and governmental sources. The Coordinator will assist with data collection and information gathering to complete and submit written reports on grant-funded projects.
- Humanities EXCEL Programming (10%): Attend two cohort meetings each quarter when possible and participate in asynchronous Canvas experiential learning reflection.
Eligibility & Qualifications
- You must be a declared or proposed major or minor in a Humanities Division department and have good academic standing. If proposed, declare by June.
- Eligible majors: Applied Linguistics and Multilingualism, Classical Studies, Critical Race and Ethnic Studies, Feminist Studies, History, Jewish Studies, Language Studies, Linguistics, Literature, Philosophy, Spanish Studies
- Eligible minors: Black Studies, Classical Studies, East Asian Studies, History of Consciousness, History, Italian Studies, Jewish Studies, Language Studies, Linguistics, Literature, Middle Eastern and North African Studies, Philosophy, Spanish Studies
- You have work authorization (required)
- You can work independently and collaboratively (required)
- A willingness to learn and an eagerness to connect authentically with peers and Club supporters. We build relationships to advance our youth and Clubs' best interests and purpose. Friendly and warm, with a customer service mindset - particularly for in-person events and donor outreach (e.g., phone calls).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including Word and Excel) and Google Suite equivalent (GoogleSheets, Google Docs).
- Familiarity with social media platforms, particularly Instagram and Facebook, and a desire to learn more about engagement and business tools for marketing and promotion.
- Ability to learn social media planning platforms, such as SproutSocial and Constant Contact.
- Attention to detail and good spelling/editing skills for written messages, letters, appeals, captions, etc.
- Punctual, responsible, and reliable.
- Access to transportation and a willingness to work in person in a hybrid manner. Some events will occur on weekends and/or evenings - though these are not likely to be more than 2-3 per year.
- This role requires a background check and fingerprinting, which BGCSCC will facilitate.
