Humanities EXCEL Program

Get Paid to Put Your Humanities Skills to Work!

Humanities EXCEL offers paid internships that let you apply what you're learning in class to real jobs in the community. We connect Humanities majors and minors with local organizations that care about your ideas and perspective. The cohort program emphasizes the value of a Humanities degree in various careers.

Transfer students are encouraged to apply for this opportunity to connect their prior experiences with new academic and professional connections at UCSC. Applications open in spring and fall quarters. Community partner mentors interview top candidates.

EXCEL Program Goals:

  1. You will practice reflecting on the humanistic lens and expertise you bring to your work that impacts the Santa Cruz County community and beyond.
  2. You will nurture transferable career-ready skills that prepare you to be socially-just leaders in professional and community-engaged settings.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. You will be able to articulate the relevance of your humanities degree in professional contexts or applications.
  2. You will identify two career-ready skills to focus on throughout your internship. You will be able to self-assess your abilities within these two skills.
  3. You will be able to produce an effective resume and cover letter that capture your fellowship experience.
