Humanities EXCEL Program

The Humanities EXCEL Program allows you to gain paid, hands-on experience in your field of study. Apply your Humanities education to real-world work! We connect Humanities majors and minors with community organizations for paid internships. This cohort program emphasizes the value of a Humanities degree in various careers.

Transfer students are encouraged to apply for this opportunity to connect their prior experiences with new academic and professional connections at UCSC. Applications open in spring for jobs starting in September and in October for jobs starting in January. Community partner mentors interview top candidates.

EXCEL Program Goals:

  1. EXCEL Fellows will practice reflecting on the humanistic lens and expertise they bring to their work that impacts the Santa Cruz County community and beyond.
  2. EXCEL Fellows will nurture transferable career-ready skills that prepare them to be socially-just leaders in professional and community-engaged settings.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. You will be able to articulate the relevance of your humanities degree in professional contexts or applications.
  2. You will identify two career-ready skills to focus on throughout your internship. You will be able to self-assess your abilities within these two skills.
  3. You will be able to produce an effective resume and cover letter that capture your fellowship experience.
